Shillong, the former capital of Assam, is one of the most renowned destinations of North East India. In today’s date Shillong has become the capital of Meghalaya. Shillong is often referred as the Scotland of the East due to its uncanny resemblances with the highlands of Scotland. This beautiful North Eastern city derives its name from Leishyllong, a super natural being who is believed to reside in the hilltop of Shillong.

Enclosed by the daunting pine trees and luscious pineapple shrubs Shillong is sprawled across the eastern part of Meghalaya. Located at an altitude of 1520mt, the rolling landscape of Shillong is one of the most prominent attractions of this quaint hill station. Another famous church of Shillong is the All Saints Church whose wooden infra structure has captured the hearts of many traveler.

There are different tribes who inhibit the land of Shillong, and if travelers want to learn more about their culture, then it is by partaking in the festivals like Ka Pomblang Nongkrem, or the Nongkrem dance. This is said to be one of the most important Khasi festivals celebrated in Shillong. Another important fesitival of the Khasi’s is Shad Sukmynsiem. One festival known as Behdiengkhlam, is celebrated in the month of July. It is the festival of the Jaintias. Wangala a festival dedicated to the Sun God is the festival of the Garo Tribe of Shillong.
