Kaziranga National Park in Assam, India, is well-connected by air, rail, and road. 

By Air: The nearest airport to Kaziranga National Park is Rowriah Airport, located at almost 74 km in Jorhat, Assam. Next is  Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, which is approximately 215 kilometers away. 

From Guwahati, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Kaziranga, which is about a 5-6 hour drive.

By Rail: The nearest railway station to Kaziranga National Park is  Helem (30km), Jorhat (90km), Furkating (75km), and Guwahati (200 km).

Furkating Junction is well-connected to major cities in India, including Guwahati and Kolkata. From Furkating Junction, you can hire a taxi or take a local bus to reach Kaziranga.

By Road: Kaziranga National Park is well-connected by road. It is approximately 217 kilometers from Guwahati and 75 kilometers from Jorhat. You can hire a taxi or take a bus from Guwahati or Jorhat to reach Kaziranga. The park has multiple entry gates, and the most commonly used entrance is Kohora, located on NH37.

The best time to visit Kaziranga National Park in Assam, India, is during the winter season, which extends from November to February.

Winter (November to February): This is the peak tourist season in Kaziranga. The weather during this period is pleasant, with temperatures ranging from around 5°C in the morning to 25°C during the day. The park is lush green, and wildlife sightings, including the famous one-horned rhinoceros, are common. It’s important to note that December and January can be quite chilly, especially during early morning safaris.

Summer (March to May): Summers in Kaziranga can be hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 37°C . The grasslands dry up during this season, making wildlife sightings more accessible. However, the heat can make safaris uncomfortable, and animals tend to seek shade and the jungle animals are found around the water bodies because of scorching heat. 

Early morning or late afternoon safaris are recommended to avoid the peak heat.

Monsoon (June to September): The monsoon season in Kaziranga is characterized by heavy rainfall, and the park remains closed for visitors during this period (usually from June to October). The Brahmaputra River, which flows through the park, swells during monsoons, resulting in floods. It is advisable to avoid visiting Kaziranga during this time due to limited accessibility and safety concerns.

Majuli Island: Majuli, located in the Brahmaputra River, is the world’s largest river island and a cultural hotspot of Assam. It is known for its scenic beauty, Vaishnavite monasteries (Satras), and local tribal culture, mask making. Majuli is approximately 100 kilometers from Kaziranga and can be reached by ferry from Jorhat.

Jorhat: Jorhat is known for its tea gardens, historical sites, and rich heritage. It is  Often referred to as the Tea Capital of India,.Attractions in Jorhat include Raja Maidam, Tocklai Tea Research Institute,  Molai Forest- a man made forest created by Padmashree Jadhav Payeng, and Cinnamora Tea Estate. 

Sivasagar: Sivasagar, also known as Rangpur, is a historic town with significant archaeological and cultural importance. It was the capital of the Ahom Kingdom, and its attractions include the Sivasagar Sivadol (Shiva Temple), Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar, and Talatal Ghar. 

Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary: Located near Jorhat, Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the Hoolock Gibbon, India’s only ape species. The sanctuary also houses various other wildlife species and offers nature trails for visitors. It is approximately 100 kilometers from Kaziranga.

Nameri National Park: Nameri National Park, situated in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, is known for its rich biodiversity and beautiful landscapes. Visit Kaziranga National Orchid Biodiversity Park:The Orchid Park is located about 2 km from Kohora Chariali or near the Central Range. About 700 plus species of orchids are found in the orchid park out of the 1314 species found in the country. Apart from orchids the park houses 101 different types of vegetables in the vegetable garden, a medicinal plant garden, a bamboo park and a cactus garden.Also don’t miss to visit the Rice Museum.

Visit the Kakochang Waterfall: Located around 14 km from Kaziranga, Kakochang Waterfall should not be missed while visiting Kaziranga. 

Watch Cultural Show and Folk Dance: Every evening a cultural program is organized in the Orchid Biodiversity Park for the visitors. Visitors can enjoy the folk music and dance performances by the local artists.
